Research Abstract

In 2003, the author conducted a research of satisfaction rate evaluation methods used in the areas of marketing and political administration through Internet. At the same time she continued the study of program evaluation theories. Through her research she found that questionnaires and interviews are main tools to evaluate the satisfaction rate. She also learned that measuring the importance of the item to be evaluated along with the satisfaction rate is also common in the satisfaction rate evaluation. This importance rate enables to make priority decisions for the improvement of the services. The author applied this method to her summer program in Japanese language and found that this method is useful to identify which aspects need the improvement first. However, it lacks the detailed information of what kind of improvements are necessary.
Thus triangulating with other methods is important to supplement the deficiency.
In 2004, she published two papers in journals and presented one at a conference. Her first paper is about the overview of the program evaluation theory and a case study of an evaluation conducted in her summer program. The second paper discussed the usefulness of a self-evaluation sheet created by the author to measure the linguistic and cultural-understanding improvement and the satisfaction rate. Her paper presentation reported her evaluation activity using the importance-satisfaction rate and discussed the merit and the demerit of this method.
