Research Abstract |
As the program showed, my research in this second year focused mainly on the analysis and the synthetic interpretation of the primary text resource which had been read in the first year. The corpus includes not only the works of French psychiatrists in the nineteenth century (Charcot, Bernheim, Pierre Janet, Edgar Berillon, etc.), but also the authors of evolutionary thought (Darwin, Wallce, Clemence Royer), thinkers of pedagogy (Buisson, Compayre), and philosophers (Renouvier, Fouillee, Valery). Part of the reading work which should be done in the first year was continued in the second year. It was well known that the theory of hypnotism had emerged from the research of hysteria in the nineteenth century psychiatry. But my research made clear that this theory also derived from the clinical experiences of multiple personality and personally disorder. And it can be supposed that the theory of hypnotism was strongly influenced by the contemporary hygienic and evolutionary thought. On the other hand, my research showed the important role of the tradition of mesmerism which had been the prototype of hypnotism. The result of my research was partly published as the article like "Looking for the place of moral: investigation of the social thought in the nineteenth century France". And it will continue to be published in the articles like "schizophrenic Sixties" "Sociology and Psychiatry: the idea of social unconscient" "Republican science and moral".
