Research Abstract |
The aim of this research is to clarify the actual conditions of Self-Esteem of Parkinson disease and the factor to affect Self-Esteem from the view point of basic attribute, the state of disease, and the isolation from or the corporation with society. The method of research is to investigate 82 Parkinson disease outpatients by asking Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale and 15 questions. The reliability of Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale is identified with Cronbach's α=0.78 and the validity with the factors is analyzed except one improper factor. The relation between Self-Esteem and each factor is analyzed by correlational analyses, nonparametric analyses and multiple regression analyses. The statistics is used by SPSS 12.0J and JSTAT. The confidentiality is protected by the ethical committee and the consent of patients. The result of the research were as follows : 1)the average age of the subjects is 71.4±8.1 years old. 2)Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale average of Parkinson disease patients is 31.60±7.74 (that means 9-45 points). 3)There is an important difference (p<0.05), which is resulted by comparing each factor of mental health, helping feeling to others and the recognition of the control to the symptom with Self-Esteem. 4)The six factors affect Self-Esteem, which are (1)occupation, (2)economical satisfaction, (3)on and off phenomena, (4)mental health, (5)helping feeling to others and (6)the period of the disease (R=0.626,R^2=0.392,F=8.072,p=0.000). The obtained multiple regression formula is Y=3.751×occupation+1.847×economical satisfaction+8.935×on and off phenomena+0.167×mental health+1.906×helping feeling to others+0.157×the period of the disease-0.158. Self-Esteem, the support of mental health, helping feeling to others, the recognition of the control to the symptom are needed.
