Research Abstract |
A National Inventory survey realized in four areas designated as biosphere reserves in Japan: Yakushima, Hakusan, Shiga-Kogen and Oodaigahara /Oomine, in which the subject matters are mainly the flora ad fauna at biosphere reserves; it was elaborated a list of local flora and fauna, and its distributional areas, focusing ecological characteristics and their biodiversity as ecosystems: (1) Collection of previously stated data on regional history and floristics. (2) Collection of comparable data on biodiversity divided in the three characteristic categories of biosphere reserves : frequency of use, pattern of conservation and relation with human-beings. (3) Collection of data concerning questions raised at the "National Strategy for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biological Diversity" consisting of the conservation of the environments (ecosystems) in which wilding and vegetation can continue to exist in sustainable ways ; the elucidation of environmental changes that have been taking place in the last twenty years, as well as their influences; collecting and transforming map information of several types into data, in addition to vegetation maps made as basis for comparison between some point in the past and the present day and collection of data concerning the growth/development ecological distribution of particular types of vegetation. Considering this is the final year of publications, data will be presented in unison at the CATALOGUE OF UNESCO/MAB BIOSPHERE RESERVES IN JAPAN ; Version II" report, to be issued in March, 2007. In addition, we have been implementing partnerships and joint researches within the biosphere reserve international network in East and Northeast Asia, in countries such as Thailand and Cambodia.
