Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During this year, I used the scintillator-based transverse proton beam profiler (PBP) diagnostic developed over the previous years on ultra-high intensity laser-driven ion acceleration experiments using the J-KAREN-P facility. The PBP was a key diagnostic of the laser ion source, measuring, for the first time, laser-accelerated protons >10 MeV at high repetition rate. We used this to perform detailed parameter scans, allowing optimisation of proton beam flux, currently being prepared for publication. A peer-reviewed paper describing the PBP was published in Review of Scientific Instruments in July 2017, using data from the previous FY. Data and analysis from the PBP was presented at various international conferences, including OPIC 2018 in Yokohama and EAAC 2018 in Italy.
