ハイブリッドフォトニック結晶ファイバによる広帯域光波の創成制御

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

・全固体フォトニックバンドギャップファイバのフォトニックバンドギャップの特性を光カー効果により制御して,全固体フォトニックバンドギャップファイバの透過特性を変化させ,光変調への応用を検討した.光カー効果は非線形光学効果の一種で媒質の屈折率が光強度に依存して変化する現象である.その応答時間は最短10 fs程であり, 超高速動作が期待できる.スタック&ドロー法を用いて全固体フォトニックバンドギャップファイバを作製に成功し,光カー効果によって全固体フォトニックバンドギャップファイバの透過特性を変化させる事で, 最大20 dBの強度変調を実現できる可能性を初めて明らかにし,光制御による光強度変調ができることを実証した.
・ステップインデックス型光ファイバによるSC光発生を検証するため,As2Se3ガラスをコア,AsSe2ガラスをクラッドとしたステップインデックス型光ファイバによるSC光の発生を検討した.励起波長を9.8μmとしたとき,2から15.1μmに亘るSC光の発生を確認することができた.15μmを超える波長域にまでSC光を拡大させることに初めて成功した.
・カルコゲナイドファイバは光損傷を受けやすく,大きな光パルスの発生によりファイバの破壊が起きやすい.そこで,スーパーコンティニューム光発生時の各種ノイズに起因する巨大パルスの発生可能性を解析した.その結果,励起光振幅揺らぎにより,巨大パルスは発生しやすく励起光の安定性を確保することが,スーパーコンティニューム光のコヒーレンス確保に重要であることを明らかにした.
・フォトニック結晶ファイバに作製に必要な超音波加工機を導入して,立ち上げを行った.
・作製時のフォトニック結晶ファイバ径の変動による波長分散特性の揺らぎをコアの周囲にコアより屈折率の低い層を付与することにより抑制できることを見出し,波長分散ゆらぎの抑制効果の定量化を進めた.

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

・ステップインデックス型カルコゲナイド光ファイバにより15μmを超える波長のスーパーコンティニューム光の発生に世界で初めて成功した.さらにスタック&ドロー法を用いて全固体フォトニックバンドギャップファイバを作製に成功し,光カー効果によって全固体フォトニックバンドギャップファイバの透過特性を変化させる事で, 最大20 dBの強度変調を実現できる可能性を初めて明らかにし,光制御による光強度変調ができることを実証した.
・カルコゲナイドファイバは光損傷を受けやすく,大きな光パルスの発生によりファイバの破壊が起きやすいため,スーパーコンティニューム光発生時の各種ノイズに起因する巨大パルスの発生可能性を解析した.その結果,励起光振幅揺らぎにより,巨大パルスは発生しやすく励起光の安定性を確保することが,スーパーコンティニューム光のコヒーレンス確保に重要であることを明らかにした.
以上の大きな研究進展があったので計画以上に進展している.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

これまでの成果を踏まえ,超広帯域なコヒーレント光の創成,高効率光信号処理や動的な導波路特性の制御等により新機能創成を目指す.具体的には,下記の項目の研究を引き続き行う.
(1)テルライトやカルコゲナイドガラスをコアとし,クラッドとして低屈折率のフォスフェイトガラス等を用いたハイブリッドPCFにより広帯域波長制御を可能とし、広帯域パラメトリック効果を発現させる.
(2)ハイブリッドPCFにより20μmの中赤外域に亘るコヒーレント光発生,高効率なパラメトリック効果を利用した高効率広帯域波長変換や広帯域パラメトリック増幅,位相感応増幅,広帯域周波数コム,スローライト生成,さらには低雑音相関光子対生成を実現の可能性を検討する.
(3)上記ガラス素材を用いた全固体フォトニックバンドギャップファイバにより石英光ファイバでは困難な光による動的な伝搬特性制御によりによる新機能創成の実現を目指す.
本研究を通して,“超オクターブファイバフォトニクス”と呼ぶべき研究分野を創成する.
