Outline of Final Research Achievements	In this study, we conducted opinion surveys for the purpose of clarifying the present situation of residents' participation in local governance and their evaluation for local public services, as well as the relationship between residents' well-being and local autonomy in Indonesia and the Philippines. In Indonesia, we randomly selected 3420 samples from 112 regencies/cities in Java, 1 city in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta, and 1 city in the Special Region of Yogyakarta - 2 samples from 3 neighborhoods in 5 villages in each regency/city. And the number of valid response is 3412. In the Philippines, we randomly selected 2400 samples from 80 cities/municipalities in the Philippines nationwide - excluding the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao. We selected 6 respondents in 5 villages (barangay) in each city/municipality. The number of valid response is 2400.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements	東南アジア諸国における自治体パフォーマンスに対する住民評価に関しては、個別事例の研究はそれなりに見られるものの、全国レベルの量的調査に基づいてローカル・ガバナンスと住民評価の関係を統計学的に分析することを試みた学術的研究の蓄積は乏しい。この点において、本研究は東南アジア地域（インドネシア及びフィリピン）における地方自治の質や変容に関する研究に新たな知見を提供するものである。また、本研究では社会学者、行政学者、東南アジア地域研究者の協働の下で実施され、住民の幸福感と地方自治の関係についての分析も試みており、社会学と行政学、あるいは東南アジア地域研究とを架橋する点でもその学術的意義は大きい。
