Outline of Final Research Achievements

We defined Urban Employment Areas based on 2010 and 2015 National Population Censuses, following the approach taken until 2005. In parallel, we developed the definition of Regional Employment Areas for non-urban areas and a new urban area concept that does not use municipality jurisdictions. We have also constructed socio-economic databases corresponding to these urban area definitions, and made them available on our web sites.
Using the metropolitan area data sets, we have conducted empirical research and policy analysis on urban agglomeration economies, classification of urban and regional employment areas, regional growth potentials, career-path selection after high schools, etc.

都市圏設定と都市圏データの整備を都市の実証研究を行っている第一線の研究者が担い、それらを用いた研究を推進したことによって、より有効なデータ整備が可能になるとともに実証研究と政策分析のレベルアップにつながったと考える。
