Outline of Annual Research Achievements

複雑な表面構造の解析に対応可能な電界放出電子線源を用いた低速電子回折装置の開発のため、新しい装置の設計・製作を行った。H27年度、低速電子回折パターンを観察するメインチャンバと、電界放出電子源を準備するサブチャンバを立ち上げた。H28年度は、設置したマイクロチャンネルプレート付低速電子回折装置により、熱電子を用いた場合の回折スポットの半値幅を測定した。また、2つのチャンバをドッキングさせ、タングステン針を真空装置内で受け渡して、低速電子回折装置の電子源として使えるようにした。H29年度は、組み上がった装置を用いて電界放出電子線を用いた低速電子回折パターンの観察を試みた。まず、電界放出電子銃と低速電子回折装置の軸合わせのため、試料の反対側に小型マイクロチャンネルプレートを設置し、1次電子線を観察しながら、偏向電極、ドリフトチューブ、低速電子回折装置の各部の位置調整を行った。最終的に、1次電子線を直径0.2 mm 程度まで収束させることができた。続いて、この電子線を用いて、低速電子回折パターンの測定を行った。試料にはSiC(0001)基板を用い、真空中で加熱して表面にグラフェン膜を形成させた。収束した電界放出電子線を用いることにより、熱電子を用いた時と比較して、半値幅が半分以下(40%程度)のシャープな回折パターンを得ることに成功した。これにより長周期の複雑な表面構造の解析が可能になると期待される。今後は、スポット強度の電子エネルギー依存性を測定し、複雑な表面構造の解析を進めていく。これらの実験と並行して、銅基板上の鉛とスズ、および、鉛とアンチモンの共吸着構造の解析や、シリコン上の鉄の吸着構造と磁性の関係などについても研究を行った。
