New era driven by quantum annealing for machine learning and computation

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

量子アニーリングを利用した際に、量子ゆらぎを利用した最適化問題を解くという点に焦点が当てられるが、この量子ゆらぎを残したままに結果とすると、量子ゆらぎによる非自明な効果を利用することができる。今年度の研究成果として顕著なものは、機械学習における最適化問題において、量子ゆらぎを利用した最適化を実行した場合に、汎化性能と呼ばれるコスト関数以外に解の性質の評価を行うことで、量子ゆらぎの効果を検証したものが挙げられる。量子ゆらぎを導入した場合に、汎化性能が向上するということを、いわゆるニューラルネットワークの最適化問題において確認した。汎化性能が向上するメカニズムについても検討を行い、トンネル効果による離脱だけでなく、量子ゆらぎが持つ広い谷の極小を選択的に選ぶ性質についても議論した。
機械学習といった応用例についての量子ゆらぎの効果だけでなく、純粋に量子系の性質を探るという基礎科学に資する部分の研究についても充実した成果をあげることができた。量子系のダイナミクスについて、新たな検討を加えた。量子速度限界と呼ばれる量子系特有のダイナミクスに関する不等式を、古典系においても確率分布の時間発展において対応物が存在することを発見した。さらに量子スピングラス模型の解析において頻繁に利用される静的近似について、一部の模型では厳密であることを証明した。今後量子スピングラス模型において、このアプローチが有効であるのかを検討していく。
