Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The objective of this research project is technology development for coal fly ash recycle as soil water holding material. Conventional water holding capacity, based on water potential in soil matrix, showed that amendment of raw coal fly ash increased water holding capacity. In contrast, water retention capacity, based on resistivity against water loss via evaporation, showed that fly ash amendment decreased water retention capacity. This study found that apatite-synthesis surface modification is effective to increase water retention capacity, in particular at high temperature. Organics content is more significant than surface area for water retention capacity.
