Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Metroxylon節のサゴヤシ(M. sagu)について,ニューギニア島とその周辺地域(メラネシアのパプアニューギニア,ソロモン諸島,ならびにインドネシア ・西パプア州)に分布する変種群の農業形質を,マレー諸島(インドネシア ・西スマトラ州,南スマトラ州,東南スラウェシ州,北マルク州)の変種群と比較検討した。その結果,ニューギニア島と周辺のものでは,幹長が長くて幹直径は細く,幹の葉痕数が多い傾向にあり,従来の報告にある出葉速度が遅いとの情報を考え合わせると,幹立ちから収穫的期までの期間が長いことが窺われた。そして,そのような特徴が生じた理由として,マレー諸島に比べてニューギニア地域では収穫圧が低いことと関わるのではないかと理解された。
Coelococcus節のフィジーゾウゲヤシ(M. vitiense)について,MaxEntを用いてフィジー固有の絶滅危惧種である本種の生育に適した場所の予測を行った。その結果、フィジーゾウゲヤシの生育適地が沿岸地域と,そこから比較的距離のある地域の両方で認められることが示された。また,将来の生育適地は,現在の分布面積の409.7%および240.9%に拡大する可能性のあることが窺われた。近年,フィジーゾウゲヤシの生息地である沿岸地域は急速な開発の影響を受けており,海面上昇の影響も受けると予想される。従って,本種へのリスクを減らすためには,沿岸地域から距離のある潜在的適地に移植する取り組みが,保全戦略として重要であるものと考えられた。
