| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
ヒト初期発生の研究は、研究材料となるヒト胚子標本の新規取得が極めて困難なことから、現有する胚子コレクションの維持および活用が重要な課題である。Blechschmidt Collection（ドイツ、ゲッティンゲン大学）はヒト胚子世界３大コレクションの１つであるが、予算が十分でなく活用がなされていない。今回、Blechschmidt Collectionの恒久的な保持と将来的な研究利用をめざして、現地に所蔵される組織切片データおよび三次元立体モデルのデジタル化を行う。デジタル化した情報は応募者らが実際に研究に用いて、既存のデータを補完することでヒト初期発生の詳細な時間軸の解明に寄与する。また、画像データを体系的にデータベース化し研究利用や教育、社会活動に提供しやすい形にすることで、全人類の共有財産となる本研究課題の意義は大きい。
2016年12月5日から16日、2017年1月12日から27日の2回延べ4週間、山田他 4名がドイツ、ゲッチンゲン大学に滞在し硝子標本の低倍スキャンを行った。デジタル化に成功した個体は51例、総数11512枚であった。同時に、研究室で行っている胎児研究の参考になる組織切片について、上記スキャンとは別に顕微鏡写真を撮像した。具体的には胎児(CRL=64mm) の矢状面の切片で大腿骨、聴覚器の組織像を撮像し、われわれが撮像している同時期のMRI、実験動物由来標本と比較を行った。また、すでに低倍スキャンの撮像を終えた個体のうちCRL30-40mmの胎児複数個体について頭蓋内の血管(Willis輪)の発生について観察を行い、われわれの持つ標本との比較を行った。高解像度の組織標本を撮像できるバーチャルスライド撮像装置（Zeiss Axioscan）を用いて硝子標本のスキャンを継続して行っており、スキャンした個体は37例、総数2337枚に達した。
