Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度の実験では、①鉄および鉄系元素合金の音速測定、②メスバウア分光法による鉄合金の高圧下での磁性転移、③内核・外核の軽元素分配、④核の形成過程と核マントル相互作用の研究を進めた。音速測定では、世界に先駆けてhcp-Feの核の160Pa, 3000 Kまでの縦波速度Vpの測定に成功した。また、bcc-Feの縦波速度、横波速度の高精度の測定も行った。これらの研究にもとづいて、内核の軽元素の候補として、水素、硫黄、珪素の可能性を示唆するた。また、FeOの縦波速度Vpの測定を70 GPa, 1400oCのまでの条件において、測定することに成功した。FeOにおいて、このような高温高圧での測定は、世界で初めてのものである。この結果を用いて、酸素は、核中には存在しにくいこと、最下部マントルの地震波異常帯がFeOの増加で説明できることを明らかにした。また、②の放射光メスバウア分光法については、異なる組成のFe-Si合金(2,8wt%Siおよび6.1wt.%Si)については、hcp-Feおよびhcp-FeNi合金では、室温で認められるリフシッツ転移がFeSi合金にも起こることをはじめて明らかにした。この転移が正の温度勾配を持つ場合には、核の条件でもこの転移が存在する可能性がある。また、FeOについて高圧下で低スピンから高スピン状態の相転移が100-150GPaの広い圧力範囲で徐々に生じることを明らかにした。③、④の核における軽元素については、珪素、硫黄、酸素の内核および外核の間の元素分配実験を行い、内核と外核に存在し得る軽元素の種類と量について検討した。

Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

本年度の実験では、①核構成物質の高温高圧下における音速測定、②メスバウア分光法による核構成物質の高圧下での磁性転移の研究、③内核・外核の軽元素分配の研究、④核の形成過程と核マントル相互作用の4課題の研究を総合的に進めた。
核を構成する物質の音速測定では、世界に先駆けて鉄の多形であるhcp-Feの核の温度圧力164GPa, 3000 Kの条件での縦波速度Vpの測定に成功し、著名国際誌 Science Advancedに出版することができた。また、bcc-Feの縦波速度Vp、横波速度Vsの高精度の測定も行うことができた。これにもとづいて、内核の軽元素の候補として、水素、硫黄、珪素の可能性を示唆することができた点は大きな前進であった。また、鉄の低圧相bcc-Feの音速の測定によって、月や火星の核の音速を推定することができた。さらに、今年度は、Feの音速に加えて、FeSiやFeOなどの他の軽元素を含む化合物の音速測定に実験を拡張した。
②のバウア分光法を用いた磁性の研究では、ことなる化学組成のFeSi合金に対して、高圧下での磁性測定をおこなった。その結果、hcp-Feおよびhcp-FeNi合金において、室温で約30 GPaで認められるリフシッツ転移(電子トポグラフィ転移)がFeSi合金にも起こることを明らかにし、この転移の圧力は、ケイ素成分の増加とともに高圧に移動することを明らかにするなど、新たな前進は見られた。また、FeOについて高圧下で低スピンから高スピン状態の相転移が100-150GPaの広い圧力範囲で徐々に生じることを明らかにした。③、④の核における軽元素については、珪素、硫黄、酸素の内核および外核の間の元素分配の実験を行うことができた。その結果、内核にはケイ素が分配され硫黄が少なく、外核は硫黄成分を含むことが明らかになった。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

前年度においては、SPring-8のBL35XUおよびBL43XUにおいて、X線非弾性散乱法によって、220GPaを超える最高の圧力において音速測定を可能にした。今年度は、この方向の実験をさらに推し進め、純鉄およびFeNi合金について、より高圧での音速測定を行う。また、この超高圧力条件において、3000Kを超える高温での測定を試みる。さらに、FeNiおよびFeと軽元素(Si,S,C,O,等)系の合金・化合物の音速を、さらに高圧において系統的に測定し、hcp-Feの音速に対する軽元素の固溶の影響を解明する。
エネルギー領域放射光57Feメスバウア分光システムを用いて、金属鉄、Fe-Si系の合金に対して、高温高圧での磁性、構造相転移、リフシッツ転移の関係を明らかにする。
さらに、前年度に引き続き、核の条件における高温高圧X線回折によってFe-Si-S系などの溶融関係をより高圧において解明し、内核・外核間の元素分配様式を決定する。また、核の軽元素の候補の一つである水素の挙動を解明するために、J-Parcにおいて高温高圧中性子回折実験を試み、鉄水素化物FeHxの構造と水素位置、水素量を特定し、金属鉄中の水素の挙動解明の研究に着手する。
