Outline of Annual Research Achievements

目玉の2次元計測:2次元ドップラー型イオン温度計測,2次元トムソン散乱計測の整備は計画以上の高精細化に成功し,高エネルギー電子用の2次元軟X線計測も軌道に乗った。合体加熱スケーリング則はイオン温度2keVまで確認した上で,高磁場化の意味を加熱パワー/損失パワー>10となる高S/Nの加熱・加速計測のためと明確化し,実験の指針とした。合体状態の閉じ込めは単一トカマク並に良好と判明したため,プローブ挿入可能な100eV帯域でもS/N>10を確保し,磁場情報が限られるが,電子加速用の高磁場実験と双方を行った。成果は以下の通り。
1)再結合磁場の2乗に比例するリコネクション加熱スケーリングを高磁場化によって2keVまで実証し,2)リコネクションのイオン加速は,先行する電子がX点下流で形成する負ポテンシャル領域への電場加速を介し,3)その負ポテンシャル領域はX領域は合体トカマク全体に広がり,同領域全体でイオンが加速され,イオンエネルギーもある範囲に揃うとわかった。4)PICシミュレーションもこれを受けて,a)実験に近い境界条件を持ったスラブモデルから,b)2個の無限長磁力管合体のモデル,c)2個のトロイダルプラズマ合体モデルへの進化し,各々論文化した。5)合体実験UTST,TS-3, MASTで見られ,謎となっていたX点に急峻にピークした電子温度分布は,b)によって近接する反平行電流が流れる合体特有の不安定に起因すると判明した。6)2次元X線計測によってX点から延びるXライン上の高エネルギー電子の存在が明らかとなり,7)中性粒子ビーム入射装置によるイオン入射のテストがはじまった。8)我々が提案・実証したMWクラスのリコネクション加熱応用は英米のベンチャー企業で採用され,英国ST-40合体実験は我々も協力し試運転でkeVを記録し、米国にも協力企業Helicity Space社を設立した。

Reason

キーとなる2次元画像計測は3種類がフルスペック運用し,独自のドップラートモグラフィー型イオン温度計測もマルチスリット化によって500点の高精細計測を実現,独自の2次元トムソン散乱型電子温度・密度計測も17×往復反射回数の計測点を実現し,高エネルギー粒子計測も早々2次元X線画像計測を論文化した。2次元画像比較により分野間連携が急進展し,実験とPICシミュレーションとの共同論文は9編にのぼり,太陽観測と実験とPICの3者連携論文も掲載予定である。再結合磁場の2乗に比例するイオン加熱のスケーリングは高磁場化により2keVまでの実証に成功しており,その上で高磁場化の意味は加熱パワー(S)/損失パワー(N)>10の確保であると明確化し,S/N>10を確保の上,プローブの磁場計測と両立できる100eV帯の実験と磁場情報が限られるが電子加速用の高温実験を行った。
電子の先行加速で作られる負の静電ポテンシャル領域,それによるイオン加速が合体プラズマ全域で起こるとわかり,リコネクション研究,特にPICは従来のスラブモデルから磁力管合体モデルへ,更にトロイダルプラズマ合体モデルへ進化した。その結果,X点に予想以上に局在化した電子加熱を磁力管合体モデルのPICと連携して解明に成功した。軟X線画像計測もX点から延びるセパラトリクス上での高エネルギー電子を見出し,論文化しており,目標を上回る成果といえる。
成果への注目度は高く,招待講演33件,招待解説2件,受賞3件,新聞掲載2件,海外TV放映1件があり,特に応用開拓は計画以上に進み,リコネクション加熱がHelicity Space社のプラズマ推進実験に新規採用され,連携中のTokamak Energy社ST-40実験はkeVのイオン温度を実現した。分野トップのMR2018,IPELS2019(9月予定)の2つの国際会議を主催し,成果を発信中である。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

最終年度は3種類の2次元計測に加えて,高エネルギー電子用の軟X線カメラを3次元トモグラフィーとして運用する。高磁場化を利用して,加熱パワー/損失パワーの比(S/N比)を適宜高めて,10以上を確保し,第1にイオンと電子のリコネクション加速,特に非熱的粒子加速・加熱機構の解明を試み,第2に中性粒子ビーム(NBI)で粒子運動を制御した能動的な検証手法を試み,第3に成果をあげだしたPICシミュレーションや太陽フレア衛星観測の画像比較を進め,加熱・加速の共通物理を見出す。更に第4に本研究が生み出したリコネクション加熱の新しい応用も開拓したい。
具体的には,1)フィルタを装着したピンホール型マイクロチャンネルプレートを複数増設して,a) エネルギー分析機能,あるいは b) 空間的な視線数を拡充した2次元X線トモグラフィー計測を進めて,高エネルギー電子のエネルギー分布や空間分布を明らかにする。2)中性粒子分析装置によりイオンのエネルギー分布の計測もはじめ,謎の多い高エネルギーの電子・イオンの存在とその発生機構を検証する。3)特にXライン上で見つかった高エネルギー電子の2次元解析を進め,波乗り加速など理論的に提案されている小パワーの粒子加速効果の可能性を検証する。4)X点に電子温度が鋭くピークする謎を磁力管合体モデルのPICシミュレーションで解明しつつあるので,実験と連携した検証を行う。5)加熱物理に関する最後の疑問は2つの加速効果:a)静電ポテンシャルと,b)リコネクション電場によるイオン・電子の加速・加熱が,ガイド磁場と再結合磁場によってどのように変化するかであり,2次元計測を駆使してそのメカニズムを明らかにする。6)ベンチャー企業を含め,予想を超えて広がるリコネクション加熱応用について,加熱を最大化する手法を開拓して工学応用を広げ,7)IPELS2019国際会議を主催する予定である。
