液体の超高速光電子分光による溶液化学反応の研究

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

1kHzチタンサファイア再生増幅器の出力をKrガスに集光し、多数の次数の高次高調波を同時発生した後、SiC/Mgミラーを用いて19次の高調波(29.5eV)を透過する光源を構築した。先行研究における高次高調波分光光源は、主に回折格子を用いた設計が多かったが、本研究では多層膜鏡を使用し、簡易かつ安定した動作を与える光源を得ることができた。この光源の出力を、自作の真空分光器で分析したところ、隣り合う17次と21次の高調波の強度が19次の2%以下存在することを確認したが、これは、SiC/Mgミラーの仕様と一致している。また19次の直線偏光を回転した場合の光子数の変化は4%以下であった。
この光源を用いて希ガスや水分子の角度分解光電子分光を行い、得られた光電子角度分布の異方性パラメータが文献値を再現できることを確認し、光源並びに光電子分光装置が正しく機能していることを確認した。その上で、液体の水の光電子スペクトルを二つの異なる直線偏光の方向(平行と垂直)に対して測定した。測定された水の光電子スペクトルには、液面から揮発した水蒸気の光電子スペクトルや水中で散乱された電子のスペクトルが重なっているため、これらを考慮した多成分解析を行って、液体の水の光電子スペクトルと光電子角度異方性パラメータを決定した。こうして得られた角度異方性パラメータは、中性水分子クラスターの値と水中での弾性・非弾性散乱を考慮した理論計算と非常に良い一致を示した。この結果は、Structural Dynamics誌に発表された。

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

1.計画では、フィラメンテ-ション四光波混合による6倍波発生を予定していたが、チタンサファイアレーザーの2倍波(400 nm)からの3倍波発生により、計画を超える高強度の6倍波(133 nm)発生に成功した。これにより高いS/N比を持った液体の光電子分光を実現することができた。
2.計画では6倍波を超える光子エネルギーが必要な場合、軌道放射光(SPring-8)の利用を想定していた。しかし、軌道放射光は実験時間が限られる上、パルス幅が数十ピコ秒と長いため、フェムト秒の光電子分光は実現不可能である。そこで、実験室内で極短紫外極短パルスを発生し、研究を飛躍的に発展させることができた。
3.1962年のHart and Boagによるパルスラジオリシスによる水和電子の発見以来、水和電子は放射線化学の中心である。本基盤研究(S)では時間角度分解光電子分光を世界で初めて成功させ(Phys. Rev. Lett.)は、水和電子の電子緩和が非断熱的で70 fs以内に起こることを明らかにし、既存の溶液化学の理論に再考を促す成果をあげている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

これまでの研究で計画以上の成果が得られているが、光電子分光特有の現象として、光パルスによって生成する光電子数が多すぎる場合の静電反発により、エネルギー分布がシフトする現象(空間電荷効果)が厄介である。特に、pump-probe光電子分光では、遅延時間に依存してエネルギーシフトが起こる。これを抑制するために、今後は10 kHzのチタンサファイア再生増幅器の出力を用いた高次高調波発生を行い、空間電荷効果の無い条件で高効率にデータを取得する。溶液反応に関するこれまでに無い実験データを取得すると共に、技術の平準化とこの学術分野の開拓を目指して行く。
