Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度は、ほぼ本実験と同様の環境下で実際のミューオンビームを用いて、読み出し回路や時間較正方法も含めた試験を行った。前年度に見つかった読み出し回路からのノイズやデッドチャンネルが多いという問題も解決し、期待した時間分解能を得た。
取得したデータとシミュレーションを組み合わせた詳細な調査により測定器の理解を深め、分解能や検出効率を悪化しうるテールイベントの削減にも成功した。
また、陽電子タイミングカウンターのSiPMがはずれてしまうという問題を物理ランの前に発見することができた。追加試験や強化作業によりスケジュールに遅れが出たが、カウンターの強化作業が済めば、陽電子タイミングカウンターはすぐに安定した測定を開始できる状態となっている。
本年度後半にはドリフトチェンバーとタイミングカウンター全体での再構成法も確立し、シミュレーションによる研究でMEG実験に比べて性能が向上することを示した。このように陽電子再構成アルゴリズムは全工程の準備が整い、データが取れ次第すぐに解析を行える状況である。

MEG II実験全体では、他国グループが進めるドリフトチェンバーの建設が遅れているため、エンジニアリングランと物理ランは再来年度の夏に行われる予定である。今後、陽電子タイミングカウンターは、前述したように強度を上げるための追加作業とカウンターの組み立てを続け、並行して時間較正のためのレーザー試験を4月末から実施する。2017年末にはすべてのカウンターの組み立てが終わり、液体キセノンガンマ線検出器とともにエンジニアリングランを行う予定である。その後、測定器の調整を行って、2018年に物理ランを開始する。
