Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of the present study was to examine the influence of a sporting event on the host city community. Based on the literature review, five positive dimensions: (1) economic development; (2) cultural interest & new opportunity; (3) external image enhancement; (4) consolidation & pride; and (5) interest in sports, and three negative dimensions: (1) disorder & congestion; (2) security risks; and (3) economic cost, were selected and employed to conduct quantitative analyses. Data were collected from 639 residents of Sapporo in Japan a week after the 2017 Sapporo Asian Winter Games through a set of online questionnaire surveys. Statistical analyses indicated that the eight-dimension model with the both positive and negative impacts was considered acceptable. The most recognized dimension wad “external image enhancement,” followed by “economic cost.”

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
