Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In FY2017 I made repeated trips to study sensoga at the Tokyo Kokuritsu Kindai Bijutsukan where I took large number of photographs and spent hours studying various paintings. In May and June 2017 I made a several week trip to WDC to do archival research at the Archives of American Art and the Navy Art Archives. In early March of 2018, I made a several day visit to Hiroshima to gather materials related to sensoga at the various museums in Hiroshoms, Kure, and Etajima. I organized and headed the panel "Rethinking the Scope and Significance of Sensoga During the 15-years War" that included my own presentation, "Towards a New Conception of Sensoga During the 15-years War". Other panel members were Prof. Lucken (INALCO), Prof. Kitahara, Curator Hirase Reita, and Tsuchikane Yasuko of Cooper Union.
