Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Since the Meiji Era, Japanese literature received many influences from the West. Among these influences, however, little is known that Western cheap editions written by nameless authors and published in the end of the 19th century had a profound impact on famous Japanese writers. In this research, I examined and analyzed how Japanese writers of this period absorbed literary style and trends from the West and skillfully adapted them to suit the tastes of an emerging modern Japanese society.
