Outline of Final Research Achievements |
During the three years research period, I conducted research in libraries and theatre archives, attending and sometimes working at the international theatre productions and festivals as mainly as a translator-dramaturg. As a result, I published 2 articles for academic journals and 5 articles for books; presented 7 papers in English at international conferences; translated 11 plays from English to Japanese as well as from Japanese to English; published 22 theatre reviews for English language newspapers such as the Japan Times and theatre magazines.
Based on these results, I am working on publishing the first English language monograph on Yukio Ninagawa (1935-2016), Japan’s most iconic director, responsible for putting “Japanese Shakespeare” on the international stage. Also, I am working on "Japanese Shakespeare after the Millennium" , especially after the natural and human catastrophe of 11.March in 2011, and the theme of British Shakespeare after Brexit.
