Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Data analysis results from the quantitative portion of the study (data collected in 2016 and 2017) were presented at two international conferences in May, 2018 (Language in Focus, Thessaloniki, Greece), and June, 2018 (Psychology of Language Learning 3, Waseda University, Tokyo). Eleven students from long-term study abroad programs were interviewed after their return from study abroad in the US, Canada, and the UK. Interviews were then transcribed. Data analysis (coding, thematic organizing) for the qualitative portion of the study was begun; however, because of the absence of two researchers due to overseas sabbaticals, results have not been finalized.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
Two of the researchers went on overseas research sabbaticals during the past year, making coordination of research analysis, presentation preparation, and paper writing all but impossible from August, 2018. One researcher retired from his teaching position, and other researchers on the project had to pick up from where he had left off. A request to extend the research project by one year (final year ending March 2019 change to March 2020) was granted.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The data results, analysis, and discussion are currently being written up for paper presentation and publication. One researcher returned from his sabbatical in April, 2019, and the other returns in September, 2019, after which face to face meetings will be planned for the fall, with an eye to finalize all research publication and presentation.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Research was delayed due to two researchers being on overseas sabbatical. The remaining funds will be used to publicize the research results in 2020.
