Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In FY 2016, I gave a paper entitled “Healing Spirits and Bodies at a Shinto Shrine in Sixteenth- and Seventeenth-Century Japan” at the meeting of the Nordic Association of Japanese and Korean Studies, Stockholm University, 17-19 August. The research for this paper was partly based on the work I am doing on Edo-period Japanese medicine connected with my JSPS (kakenhi) grant. During 2016, I made several research trips to use libraries with good collections of Japanese medical manuscripts or old printed books. I did research at: Chinese University of Hong Kong (two trips); University of California, San Francisco, Medical School (one trip); Wellcome Library in London (one trip).
