Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, the process in which military saints’ veneration established in Byzantine Empire in the Middle Ages was spread in the neighboring Slavs-Eastern World, settled in those countries and developed in original evolution was analyzed and the characteristics born in each area were compared and inspected. We payed special attention the process by which St. Demetrios of Thessalonike cult was accepted at Bulgaria and Serbia. To study such a problem, along with documents investigation, we carried out the field works on the frescos of churches and the monasteries in the two countries and confirmed the process by which a military saint from Byzantium was settling as a local patron saint in those areas.
