Outline of Final Research Achievements

The transnational actors are increasing their presence in changing international relations where states no longer occupy the predominant position. While function of transnational actors transcending national interests has been emphasized, their political function reflecting national interests is often overlooked. Focusing on indigenous peoples in Taiwan and the Pacific Island region as transnational actors, this sutdy analyzes their political function reflecting national interests on diplomatic recognition to Taiwan in the Pacific Island region. It argues political function of transnational actors will be intensified with expanding a room for their spontaneous conducts.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究成果の学術的意義は、国家の利害をこえて行動する脱国家的な越境的アクターの機能に焦点を当てた従来の研究に対し、国家間関係のみが構成するものではなくなった国際関係において、越境的なアクターを通じた利害の反映という可能性の広がりが国家にもたらされている点に注目し、国家の利害を反映した越境的アクターの政治的機能という新たな問題視角を提示して、それがどのように機能しているのか、太平洋島嶼地域における台湾の外交的承認獲得をめぐる先住民族の政治的機能に関する実証分析に基づいて明らかにした点である。
