[1] 論文「Distinct impacts of high intensity caregiving on caregivers’ mental health and continuation of caregiving」(Health Economics Reviewに掲載)において、週20時間以上の家族介護(HI; high-intensity caregiving)と家族介護者のメンタルヘルスの間における因果関係を明らかにした。無業の介護者と非正規労働に従事している介護者は、HIの影響が異なった。1年間、HIに従事した無業の介護者ほどHIを継続しがちであるが、HIの継続によりメンタルヘルスの状態が重篤になる傾向があることを見出した。また、無業の介護者がHIを3年以上続ける傾向がないことを明らかにした。
[2] [1]より、家族介護者の健康状態悪化を防ぐために、HI継続を回避させつつ、家族介護者にhealth enhancing behaviors (HEB)を推奨する必要がある。介護時間を減少させて、その時間をHEBに振り向けるための方策を考察する研究を進めた。その成果が、論文「Do health-enhancing behaviors protect the physical health of informal caregivers?」(12th World Congress of iHEA で発表予定)である。この論文は、2017 China Meeting of the Econometric Society (Wuhan, Hubei Province, China)にも採択されたが、予算制約と日程を考慮して、同大会に発表者として参加することを辞退した。

想定外の審査の遅滞に見舞われ、研究の進捗に支障が生じたから。
論文「Distinct impacts of high intensity caregiving on caregivers’ mental health and continuation of caregiving」の修正稿に対する回答を、修正稿提出から7カ月超を経過しても、某英文査読誌(日本の経済学系の代表的な雑誌のひとつ)から得ることができなかった。投稿論文の取り下げが認められた後、当該論文をスピーディーな審査に定評のあるHealth Economics Reviewに投稿し、採択された。

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
厚生労働省「中高年者縦断調査」と国立社会保障・人口問題研究所「生活と支え合いに関する調査 (旧：社会保障実態調査)」を用いて、これまでの研究を発展させる。
(1) 論文「Do health-enhancing behaviors protect the physical health of informal caregivers?」をBoston Universityで発表、査読誌に投稿する予定である。
(2) 「生活と支え合いに関する調査」を用いて、家族介護者の主観的健康状態と家族介護経験の有無が、介護者自身が要介護者となった時に、どこで誰から介護を受けたいかの選好に与える影響を分析する。
(3) 厚生労働省「中高年者縦断調査」におけるNon-response biasを精査する。
