Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the first phase (FY2015), two of the three main research objectives (i.e., analysis of secondary data and paper development for conference) have been achieved. More specifically, literature review and secondary data analysis have been done using materials and data from various sources such as IMF, ADB, and World Economic Forum. A paper entitled “Financial Sector Development in the Greater Mekong Subregion” has been developed and prepared for submission to a conference, tentatively in October 2016. The research objective of network development has not yet been achieved and will be carried over to this fiscal year, being the first task to be completed before the field research in the Mekong region.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Two out of three research objectives (i.e., analysis of secondary data and paper development for conference) have been achieved. Due to the complication of the university’s regulation (Miyazaki International College) on the use of research fund for conducting field research in developing countries and the researcher’s change of work place to Kobe University, the network development could not be completed as planned. Nonetheless, the research network with scholars and institutions in Thailand has been developed gradually through existing research connection and e-mail communications. The actual meetings will be done this year to deepen and expand the research network to the other countries in the Mekong region.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
1. Network development (Phase I) with Sasin Japan Center of Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Khon Kaen University and National Institute of Development Administration is planned to be done in June 2016 to accommodate the conduct of field research in the next period. 2. Phase 2 objectives of empirical survey on the current situation of firm financing and expert interviews in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand will be conducted mostly during July- November of 2016. 3. The results of field research (FY2016 result) will be analyzed and developed into a paper during January-March 2017. 4. Conference presentation for the 2015 research results is planned to be done tentatively in October 2016. The paper will then be revised and submitted to a journal for publication.

Causes of Carryover |
Due to the complication of the university’s regulation (Miyazaki International College) on the use of research fund for conducting field research in developing countries and the researcher’s change of work place to Kobe University, the network development could not be completed as planned. However, the research network with scholars and institutions in Thailand has been developed through existing research connection and e-mail communications. The actual meetings will be done this year to deepen and expand the research network to the other countries in the Mekong region.
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
The network development is planned to be completed in the third and forth weeks of June 2016. Research network will be developed mainly with Sasin Japan Center of Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Khon Kaen University and National Institute of Development Administration in Thailand and will then be expanded to the other Mekong countries (i.e., Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam), preparing for the conduct of field research during July-November of this year.
