Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The summary records research achievements in FY2017. The year’s research goal was to complete qualitative data analysis, prepare, implement and complete quantitative research in line with proposed schedule. Eventually, the researcher completed the qualitative data analysis and the preparation for fieldwork. In addition, the researcher presented some parts of research outcomes at the annual conference of European Institute of Retailing and Services Studies in June, 2017. Also, the researcher was invited for a public talk regarding the current research outcomes by the Asia Institute Tasmania at the University of Tasmania in Australia in March, 2018. Feedback from attendees significantly contributed to the subsequent development of research project and the implementation of quantitative research.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The proposed research goal in FY2017 was to complete qualitative data analyses, begin and complete quantitative research. The researcher has completed the comparative qualitative data analysis. Based on the outcomes of qualitative data analyses, the researcher has started the phase of quantitative research. The qualitative analysis outcomes have been used for the refinement of research questions, the development of research hypotheses, and the design of a self-administered questionnaire for the following quantitative data collection in the field. The preparation for fieldwork has completed and the executive plan for the fieldwork is ongoing.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The researcher will conduct quantitative research using questionnaire survey. The researcher plans to do the fieldwork in the universities which are likely to generate large number of sample. University students will be recruited as the respondents. The fieldwork is expected to be implemented and completed this year. A research assistant will help in the field. After fieldwork, data processing and analysis will be undertaken. In addition, the researcher will work on manuscripts for journal submission and conference full paper submission, as well as preparing international conference presentation and attendance.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The researcher starts to use fund for the project after receiving a deferred acceptance for the grant in late October 20 15. In order to adequately use the fund and efficiently work for the research project, the researcher rescheduled the time for qualitative data collection to be in 2016. After completing qualitative data collection, the researcher spent more time than expected on data analysis. In addition, an unforeseen situation of overseas research collaborator on special leave happened in 2017. This influences the proposed schedule of quantitative research in FY2017. The researcher has got the approval for one year grant extension. This leads to the incurring amount to be used in next fiscal year. Usage Plan: In FY2018, the fund will be used mainly for data collection and the relevance, international conference, research assistant, and copyediting service. This includes the spending on the following activities: overseas business trips (flight tickets, accommodation and per diems), research assistant in the fieldwork, and manuscripts writing.
