Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Practical realization of artificial micro-/nano-structures with optical and thermal properties resembling those of nanostructures found in naturally existing Morpho butterfly wing scales, was demonstrated. Structural color materials were realized via laser structuring of dielectrics. Control over characteristics of the structural color was achieved by controlling the fabrication conditions. Perfect absorbers of electromagnetic radiation based on laser-structured photoresist were realized. Environmental sensitivity of structural color and perfect absorber materials fabricated using laser microstructuring technique was investigated.
