Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The aim of the project is to set the zero point of near infrared photometry in cgs units (the AB system). The present project consists of series of instrumentation and experiments. Hence, this is not a project that directly produces science results, but a project indispensable for a wide variety of astronomical observations in near infrared bands to derive science. The project is of purely technical nature which becomes science only when we reach at final results.
We have continued to work for preparing experiments, examined the properties of the parts we need, procured them, and verified with our experiments. We were basically ready to ship them to the Subaru observatory in Hawaii. We then encounter the problem at this point. In the Subaru observatory, they had an accident in the Subaru telescope structure (hatches) during its operation. They tried to fix it but failed again. It is not quite fixed yet as of January. Their first priority is to fix the telescope errors. This severely hinders our work. Moreover, after this accident Subaru made a rule that all work in the observatory should be under their surveillance, while they have been fully engaged in fixing their trouble. This caused severe delay of our work. So far we cannot resume our work continued.

Our work is severely hindered because of the accident in the Subaru telescope before we go to Hawaii and their inability to fix the problem. We have no way other than to await.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
We have no way other than to await. In this situation, We decided to write a scientific paper for our findings we have made to now. We intended to publish these findings after we have given the proper zero point (i.e., the absolute scale), but in this situation we decided to publish the findings, so that any colleagues in the world can use them for their work should they so wish. We started to write a paper, showing the coordinate and spectrum of the stars we discovered.
