Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We completed Ist year of this research project. We followed the time line of the research project planned during application phase. Health and Disease Research Center for Rural Peoples (HDRCRP), Dhaka, Bangladesh has played a crucial role in the implementation of current research project in Ist year. We completed a part of a case control study last year. We enrolled a total of 125 patients of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) admitted to the Coronary Care Units of Saheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital Bogra, Bangladesh. Standard definitions were used to diagnose ACS in patients who had acute myocardial infarction (MI) or unstable angina. Before starting the data collection, intensive training was provided to the hospital staffs and HDRCRP research staffs for the skilled data collection. 53.4% ACS patients had low HDL levels. STEMI-ACS patients had the highest prevalence of low HDL levels compared to non-STEMI ACS patients and the patients of unstable angina. Mean level of HDL has been found in this study population 42.1 (mg/dl). In this study we found less than 25% ACS patients had sedentary life style in Bangladesh. Mean level of BMI (kg/m2) was 22.5. Besides the highly prevalent low HDL cardiovascular disease risk factor, the 2nd common risk factor was hypertension in these ACS patients in Bangladesh.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The current research is on right track both from the contexts of time line and the amount of research activities scheduled to be done (100% done with target milestone achievement and implementation). Trained hospital staffs and trained research staffs could overcome all the troubles during data collection in Bangladesh. There was no big problem during data collection.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
We will continue the rest of the case control study using ACS patients in Bangladesh. This year the patients recruitment will be done at other tertiary hospitals in Bangladesh namely Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital, Rajshahi Bangladesh and Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh. We will continue biochemical investigations as well as advanced biomarkers analysis in these ACS patients dividing low and high HDL groups. Advanced statistical analysis will be done this year. Scientific manuscript will be also prepared to submit to high impact factor journal.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Last year some biochemical reagents were donated to this study from HDRCRP, Bangladesh for lipid profile measurements. .
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
The unused money for those reagents will be added to the advanced biomarker measurement this year.
