Outline of Annual Research Achievements

The comparison of years of life lots (YLL) due to stroke between Japan and Taiwan was conducted. Results showed that both in Japan and Taiwan, the trends of YLLs, average of YLL per year, and YLL rates in the past 30 years were similar between Japan and Taiwan. And also these decline trends of indicators were similar to the estimations from the global burden of disease study in 2013. More prominent declines were seen in hemorrhage stroke mortality, but slightly decline was shown in cerebral infarction in Japanese population. This finding reflects the current burden of stroke in Japanese population through YLLs with corresponding to profiles from the mortality estimation as a whole. It may help for policy makers to monitor the cardiovascular disease trend by a different method.
An oral presentation on mortality from cerebrovascular disease in Japan was conducted in the Association of Pacific Rim Universities annual workshop in Osaka, Oct 2015. The investigator also attended the First World Congress on Public Health and Nutrition in Madrid, March 2016, with an oral presentation on the burden of disease and lifestyle related factors in Japan.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

The study is going well as schedule, with data analysis on the primary estimation of Years of Life Lost due to stroke in Japan, with comparing with the results from the collaborators in Taiwan National University. And two international conferences to present the relevant study results was participated as planned.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

The years of life lost due to stroke will be compared with the results from Taiwan at the prefecture level, i.e. Tokyo and Osaka in Japan and Taipei and Kaohsiung in Japan. The first study manuscript for publication will be prepared in 2016-2017. The tentative title is 'Burden of stroke in Japan and Taiwan: the profiles on the big cities'.

Causes of Carryover

The last trip was to attend the World Public Health and Nutrition Congress, Madrid, on March 10-12, 2016. Since it was not clear about the exact expenditure would be happened before the trip, the careful using this year amount. i.e. in case of overspread, made an incurring amount at the end of this fiscal year.

Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget

The incurring amount will be used for this research, such as purchasing consumable materials.
