Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The objective of this study program is to compare the burden of main diseases in Asians, including Japan, China, and Taiwan. In the past three years, the study on burdens of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes were intensively conducted. In total, one article, four presentations in international conferences, and three presentations in domestic conferences had been completed during FY2015-2017. In the last year (FY2018) of this study, as the first author, one article on all-causes of death had been published at Journal of Epidemiology in 2018. This study described that higher dietary intakes of antioxidant vitamins reduced the risk of all-cause mortality in middle-aged Japanese women, especially female non-smokers. After moved to Fukushima Medical University, the PI joined the research groups on mortality profiles after the 3.11 disaster. Three presentations on perinatal mortality and external causes of deaths were given at domestic scientific conferences in FY2018. For lifestyle risk, the PI studied the dietary patterns associated with metabolic factors by using the data of Fukushima Health Management Surveys. The presentation for the analysis of the stability about the dietary patterns in Fukushima obtained the best award from 'The 3rd World Congress on Nutrition, Dietetics and Nutraceuticals', in Prague, Czech Republic, February 25-26, 2019. In addition, the study on cancer mortality burden (the status and trend) in provinces in Japan and China is being conducting.
