Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Zirconia powder from was pressed and the pressed tablets were sintered at 1400°C for 3 h in the air atmosphere. The fabricated zirconia disks were placed in the zinc phosphate solution (ZnO, H3PO4 and HNO3 mixture) in hydrothermal condition. The autoclave was maintained at 200°C for different durations from 3 h or 6 h under a hydrothermal condition. After formation of the zinc phosphate coating, the samples were hydrothermally treated with the calcium solution (calcium chloride and calcium acetate) at various concentrations 0.1 to 5 mol. SEM, XRD, EDS was used for characterization. The MC3-T3-E1 osteoblast-like cell line has been used for cell study. The coated and uncoated zirconia samples were placed in 24 well plate and 10000 cells/cm2 were cultured on the samples for 3 h and 2, 4 and 6 days for morphology and viability test. SEM result confirmed that the surface of the plate like crystals made by zinc phosphatizing of zirconia, subjected to the hydrothermal treatment of the 1 mol calcium acetate solution at 200°C for 12 h, has been covered with the calcium phosphate crystals. It was also confirmed that the fabricated calcium phosphate coating layer on the zinc phosphatized zirconia by the hydrothermal method is not toxic. Viability result for both zinc phosphatized and calcium phosphate coated samples indicated that the cells could proliferate well. In conclusion, a calcium phosphate coating layer was successfully fabricated on the zinc phosphatized zirconia by using the hydrothermal method. And the coating is not toxic.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Calcium phosphate was formed on the zirconia plates successfully. And in vitro test was done.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Characterization of the coatings are the next step
|
Causes of Carryover |
We did not buy enough materials because of experimental process
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
We need to buy necessary materials this year
