| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research project investigated the manner in which the battlefields of China were depicted in documents written during the Second Sino-Japanese War / Asia-Pacific War, including a detailed analysis of language used by writers as events unfolded. Descriptions of war-time memories and experiences documented after Japan’s defeat were also discussed. Particular attention was given to identifying how language was used to describe the Japanese army’s invasion of China and its use of violence in China. This research project was realized through the collaboration of researchers from various fields from both within Japan and abroad. These findings highlight the current significance of research pertaining to war literature.
