Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
From July 17-20 2015, I attended the West Coast Hockey Prep Camp in Port Alberni, BC, Canada. At the camp I was able to record (audio/visual) the instruction of coaches both on and off the ice and, most importantly, was able to observe both female and male training sessions. This was the first opportunity to observe the female training sessions for this research. The observations will allow for comparisons of the coaching language for such content as sport-specific language vs. general language content; levels of politeness; and levels of difficulty. I was observed a professional coach from the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins and an ex-NHL player which will allow for both comparisons of language and also the communicative approaches between professionals and non-professional athletes.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Due to illness I was unable to go abroad on schedule. I am scheduled to go abroad again in July.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I will attend camp again this July for recording and data for a current paper I am writing on coaching language.
|
Causes of Carryover |
I was unable to go abroad to attend camps due to health reasons so the amount carried over reflects the amount for those travel expenses.
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
I will use the amount for transcription assistance and editing for the preparation for a current paper.
