Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
As planned and described in the "Research Plan and Method" of the application for this research project, and also as described in the Summary of Research Achievements of last year, the first year was spent doing literature review and interviews, but those did not allow for the generation of a model mature enough to move on to the next step of our research agenda, model-testing . This explains why literature review and interviews went on on this second year. The conclusions reached confirmed what had been sensed on the first year: independent variables should remain as described in the application, i.e. reflecting individual background in terms of biculturalism: 1) parents' cultural backgrounds, 2) country/ies where the individual grew up, and 3) nationality of the attended school(s)). Maximizing the relevance of the dependent variables proved to be more difficult : 1) organizational roles or contributions (both expected at the time of hiring time but also revealed during job tenure), 2) individual-level variables (they partially parallel the organizational-level ones): initial motivations versus later disappointments, organizational identification, cultural fit (between the individual and the organizational culture, and other personal, social and task outcomes. The third and final year will be dedicated to the statistical testing of the relationships between the variables mentioned above.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
As often in scientific research, the initially planned strategy has required some modifications, as its implementation faced the realities of the exploratory findings in the field. However no insurmountable turnoff was faced, and it is possible to assert that the project is progressing in a smooth enough way.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
As mentioned above in the Summary of Research Achievements, the third and final year will be dedicated to the statistical testing of the relationships between the variables mentioned above.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Resources already available to the researchers have been used during the fiscal year.
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
IBM SPSS software, hardware, books, and travel expenses for the diffusion of research findings.
