Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In March, I went on a research trip to Bangkok, Thailand and Phnom Penh, Cambodia. While I was in Bangkok I met with staff from UNESCO and SEAMEO. In Phnom Penh, I met and interviewed staff of UNESCO, the Asian Development Bank, UNICEF, KOICA and JICA. These interviews were then transcribed and analyzed. Plan have been made to present a research paper at the Japan Education Research Association conference at which the researcher was invited to present a paper. The researcher was also invited to publish a book chapter in a forthcoming book on Japan's education development projects.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The researcher was able to interview key stakeholders at both multilateral and bilateral agencies which provide aid for educational development. For personal reasons the researcher was not able to do the following. First, he was unable to visit and interview key personnel of such projects in home offices of the agencies. This will be important to fit the agencies' Cambodia project policy within wider development policy. Second, he was unable to find enough time to interview the teachers and teacher trainers involved in the math and science education projects in Cambodia managed by JICA.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The researcher intends to address the shortcomings outlined above by doing the following. In July of this year (and possibly March of next year), the researcher will visit key home offices of multilateral agencies such as the EU and UNESCO. Following this trip the researcher will conduct field research over an extended period of time in Cambodia during which time he will focus on the teachers and teacher trainers in the JICA math and science projects. This will be facilitated with the use of focus group interviews and hopefully observations of teacher training workshops and/or classes where teachers attempt to use their new training.

Causes of Carryover |
The researcher's personal schedule did not allow for as much time for field research or visiting and presenting at international conferences as he would have liked.
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
In AY2016 the researcher will be more diligent in securing time to attend conferences and present papers for international conferences. Funds carried over will be used to fund these trips.
