超高圧縮異常格子状態の発現と観察

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

パワーレーザー照射による超高速圧縮により異常格子状態を発現させ、Ｘ線自由電子レーザーをプローブに用いたポンププローブ実験によって、フェムト秒時間分解リアルタイムその場観察による異常格子ダイナミクスを実証解明していくことを目指して研究を遂行した。

これまでレーザープラズマＸ線を用いて行われてきた研究をＸ線自由電子レーザーによるXRDイメージングに拡張した。層状物質としてプロトタイピカルなグラファイトの高配向性グレード試料を用いて、レーザー駆動超高速一軸圧縮下の異常弾性状態における格子間距離の変化を、原子レベルフェムト秒分解Ｘ線回折により世界で初めて観測することに成功した。通常の静的圧縮下における準一軸圧縮環境で実現される層間距離に比べて、10倍以上の高圧縮が実現されていることが明らかになった。

独自に構築した速度干渉計などのシステムを利用して高時間分解で自由表面速度の時間進展を計測し、異常弾性状態の前駆波が伝播していることを独立に観測することにも成功した。従来の動的圧縮技術で測定されている弾性限界以上の異常弾性一軸圧縮状態が生成していることと矛盾しない結果が得られた。

Reason

レーザープラズマ駆動のサブナノ秒Ｘ線パルスで示唆された超高歪み速度起下の周期構造の生成だけでなく、フェムト秒パルスを用いることにより、そのダイナミクスの時間進展を解明するための実験を開始することができた。特に高配向性のグラファイト試料を用意することによって、層状物質の相関距離を超高圧縮しこれまで実現できなかったレベルの一軸圧縮下異常格子状態の生成を実証できた可能性がある。

第一原理計算による電子状態の解明にも着手し、動的超高圧の方法による異常格子状態生成の解明と異常結晶場の電子状態の解明に踏み出すことができた。新たな基盤的研究計画を提案できる十分な成果を得られ始めたと言える。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

ハイパワーレーザーをドライブ、Ｘ線自由電子レーザーをプローブに用いたポンププローブ実験によって、異常弾性一軸圧縮状態の時間進展、圧力および歪み速度依存性、及びグラファイトの配向度依存性などを明らかにし、異常格子状態の全貌を実験的に明らかにする。また第一原理計算を進展させ、異常格子状態における電子状態を調べ実験結果と比較検討する。
