Outline of Annual Research Achievements

初年度は，計画通り，合体させる球状トカマクのポロイダル磁場を目標に掲げた1.5～2kGに引き上げるためのコイル系，計測系に加え，電源系のインフラ作りに専念し，計画を上まわるシステムの構築に成功した。電源系は，計画では，TS-4実験装置用16kV, 0.4MJを小型のTS-3用に組み直す予定であったが，0.2MJ分の安価なコンデンサーを獲得し，スイッチ系も自作したことから，総エネルギーが最大0.6MJに達するシステムとして組み上げ，電源エネルギーの工場，即ち強磁場に耐えられるようポロイダルコイルも従来のケーブル巻線方式から銅ロッドのみで構成する形式に変更し，絶縁・力学強度が格段に向上した。これにより，2kGを上まわる高ポロイダル磁場を得る見通しがついた。それに比例して，トロイダルコイル，平衡磁場コイル用電源も強化する必要があるが，高エネルギー密度の電気二重層型コンデンサーの増量により，後者は解決し，前者もコイルの部分的強化により，解決しつつある。以上の進展と初期実験結果およびリコネクション加熱による核融合プラズマの点火の可能性は，内外の注目を集め，国際球状トカマク会議, ISSS国際会議，IPELS2015国際会議，MR2016国際会議，韓国物理学会等の招待講演，Physics of Plasma誌の招待論文，英国チャンネル４のＴＶ放映など，内外から高く評価されている。計測系整備も，従来7×5点の2次元計測であったイオン温度計測を32×10点に高精細化するなど，大きな進歩があった。これによって，本研究の中核である合体・リコネクション加熱によるリコネクションアウトフローによるＸ点下流の強いイオン加熱を高精度で計測できるようになり，分担者の田辺がプラズマ核融合学会の学術奨励賞を受賞するなど，高い評価を得ることができた。

Current Status of Research Progress

Reason

初年度，予算が少ない中，電源に自作の試みを色々行い，計画を大幅に上まわる0.6MJのコンデンサー電源を整備できたこと，さらにポロイダルコイルをすべて銅ロッドで再構成し，力学強度を大幅に強化したことは計画を上まわる進展で，ポロイダル磁場も目標値の2kGを大幅に上まわる見通しがついた。本研究に対する学会での注目度は高く，招待講演6件，招待論文1件，海外ＴＶ放映1件があり，大きな成果をあげている。整備した東大独自のドップラー型2次元イオン温度計測についても，プラズマ核融合学会の授賞，招待講演となっており，当初計画を上まわる成果をあげたと判断できる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

初年度で合体実験の高磁場化のインフラ作りに専念した結果，計画を上まわる0.6MJのコンデンサー電源と銅ロッドで構成される力学強度に優れたポロイダルコイルを整備できたことにより，ポロイダル磁場の目標値も2kGを上まわる見通しがついたが，球状トカマクプラズマをより安定に保つには，比例して平衡磁場コイル用DC電源，センタートロイダルコイルの増強が必要であり，引き続き工夫を行なう予定である。次年度は構築したインフラを本格的に運用して，球状トカマクの強磁場合体実験へと進み，いよいよポロイダル磁場を従来の最大0.5kGから徐々に引き上げていく。初年度開発済のドップラー型2次元高精細イオン温度計測を用いて，ポロイダル磁場上昇に伴う磁気リコネクションのイオン加熱の上昇を計測し，その合体加熱のスケーリング則と加熱メカニズムを検証する予定である。
