Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Human umbilical cells (UC-EZ) were derived from enzymatic digestion. Using magnetic-activated cell sorting (MACS), CD146-positive mesenchymal stem cells (US-MACS) were isolated. Two kinds of cells were positive for stem cell markers. UC-EZ were positive for Nanog and Oct3/4 but negative for Sox2. Two cells formed alizarin red-positive calcified matrix and oil red O positive lipid droplets. UC-MACS were positive for all stem cell markers and undifferentiated maintenance-related genes. UC-MACS showed high capacity to differentiate toward osteoblasts and adipocytes.
