本研究の目的は、気候変動・エネルギー問題を安全保障の枠組みで捉え直し、気候変動緩和策と気候・エネルギー安全保障の関係を「世界全体を対象とした応用一般均衡（ＣＧＥ）モデル」を核とした手法により定量評価することである。
平成２９年度は、前年度までの研究を踏まえて、さらにエネルギー安全保障の分析を深化し、また気候安全保障に関して気候変動の影響を考慮した分析を実施した。
エネルギー安全保障については、ＣＧＥモデルによる分析と同時に、多様な社会シナリオを分析するために、国立環境研究所と地球環境戦略研究機関が開発した2050低炭素ナビを用いたシナリオ分析を並行して進めた。次に、気候安全保障に関しては、気候変動の社会経済に及ぼす影響をＣＧＥモデルに組み込み、気候変動の影響を考慮した分析を行った。これらの分析結果については、論文出版（例えば、Renewable and Sustainable Energy ReviewsやInternational Journal of Green Energyなど）や国際会議での報告（2nd HAEE International Conference；開催地はギリシャ・アテネ）など一定の成果を得た。加えて、平成３０年度に開催される国際会議（2nd HAEE International Conference；開催地はギリシャ・アテネやIAEE International Conference 2018；開催地はオランダ・フローニンゲン）でも発表予定であり、学術誌への投稿論文も準備中である。本研究には、国際共同研究も含まれている。
