Outline of Final Research Achievements

In recent years, endurance sports such as triathlon and marathon have been enjoyed all over the world. Previous studies mainly discussed that endurance sports provide meaningful outcomes for people in compensation for an extended period of time and distance of suffering. Such utility of endurance sports is positioned to explain the reason why many people voluntarily put it into painful practice. This study further found another motive of people for endurance sports by focusing on their experiences without utility. In other words, the people experienced profitless expenditure by just exhausting their own energy and hospitality such as accepting and cheering for their own expenditure. The analysis of the data from video recording and interviewing of triathletes revealed an aspect of expenditure and hospitality in triathlon as specific experiences with a sense of extraordinary life.
