Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of my research is to rethink nineteenth-century Russian literature within the context of language and body. I completed a comprehensive study on the relationship between language and gesture in nineteenth-century Russian Literature. Besides the texts of Russian literature and Russian thought on language, I also analyzed the gestures represented in contemporary media and in the discussion about the relationship between language and gesture in European linguistics that extends from the discourse on the origin of language in the eighteenth-century to Saussure and Peirce. I provided a perspective to rethink the discourse on the national originality of Russian thought, demonstrating a tendency to make a close connection between language and body is not peculiar to it. This research contributed to the recent studies in the field of literature and culture that are increasingly focusing on language as body practice.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
