Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this research is to reveal discourses and practices of private-level mutual aid performed at crises (natural disasters, civil wars, etc.) within the 19th-century Ottoman Empire. For that purpose, I analyzed contemporary resources, especially newspapers published in Ottoman Turkish. Through this research, I published a paper in Japanese, which revealed fundraising campaigns performed at a great fire breaking out at Istanbul in the second half of the 19th century. I also published the English version of this paper in the Journal of Ottoman Studies.
