Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
To facilitate and expedite the discussion with key stake holders, I made the topic of this research the main theme of a patent law conference hosted at Waseda University in June 2015. At the conference, we discussed both the degree of patent protection offered for pharmaceutical inventions in India in comparison to Japan and the US (minimum level of patent protection), but also competition law boundaries to patent protection in the US and Japan ("maximum level" of patent protection). In particular, the interactions with Judge Bhat (Delhi High Court), one of the most famous Indian patent law judges, provided me with excellent access to the Indian patent system and its approach to promote innovation. The proceedings of the conference were or are to be published in academic magazines in Japan.
Besides organizing and publishing the conference, I prepared a conference contribution on the role of patent law in promoting pharmaceutical innovation during a renowned conference in Duesseldorf, Germany, in March 2016.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The large conference that I put together was a significant boost to the research. I can now focus on specific details related to the research.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
- Presentations at conferences on patent right enforcement in Poland and the US during the next months. - Publication of an article on Asian lessons to Japanese patent law with respect to the patent protection of pharmaceutical innovation. - Publication of further findings and results in accordance with the research outline of the application.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Instead of certain travels, I incurred cost for hosting foreign researchers in relation to the conference hosted in June 2015, causing a slight difference.
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
I will continue to present my findings at domestic and international conferences, and discuss related issues with international experts in line with the itemized application.
