Outline of Annual Research Achievements

This research aims at recording and analyzing financial diaries of poor households in rural Cambodia. As explained in the activities in FY2015, Ankor Sar commune in Mesang district, Prey Veng province, was chosen for the survey.
After a preliminary survey and a preparation in FY2015, during FY2016 the main activities were to record the financial diaries of randomly selected poor households. Specifically, local teams of data collectors and research assistants were formed for the record and survey using the questionnaire constructed in FY2015. To make the activities go smooth and effectively, during FY2016 we regularly visited and monitored the fields and the feedbacks from data collectors and selected households regarding the questionnaire and the survey were carefully taken into account for improvement. With the instruction from the main researcher, data collectors and research assistants collected and recorded the financial diaries carefully. Additionally, in this FY2016 the results of the preliminary survey in FY2015 were published as a research paper in Saitama University Review. In order to expand the view and to gain more insights from the discussion with other researchers, the results were also presented in a research seminar organized by Southeast Asian Program (SEAP) at Cornell University, USA, in September 2016.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

As mentioned in "Summary of Research Achievements," the main activities during FY2016 were to record the financial diaries of selected poor households. In addition to this, the results based on the preliminary survey were presented as a research paper and in a research seminar organized by Southeast Asian Program (SEAP) at Cornell University, USA. For this reason, it is evident that the current status of this research project is "Progressing More Smoothly than Initially Planned."

Strategy for Future Research Activity

During FY2017, the detailed analyses based on the database of the recorded financial diaries will be conducted. To make the results available for the public and other researchers, the results will be presented as research papers. At the same time, they will be introduced in research seminars and academic conferences. Since FY2017 is the last year for this research project, the insights and main implications for policymakers will be drawn.
