Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The subject of this research which the tsunami-affected communities in the Great East Japan Earthquake, how the community would recover from the damage caused by the earthquake and build resilience. This research captured the reconstruction process after the earthquake in three phases: (1) rebuilding residence, (2) reconstructing livelihood, and (3) restructuring local communities. It was clarified that the “continuity” of life, which was once cut off due to the disaster, will be withdrawn and recovered responsibility by the subsequent efforts and activities of those who have been forced to make choices. As a result, this research constructed a bottom-up medium- to long-term regional revitalization model rooted in the actual conditions of the disaster-stricken area.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
