Outline of Final Research Achievements

Synthesis, structure and physical properties of new layered perovskite oxyhalides were investigated. We successfully synthesized two new members of oxyhalide phases Sr2MnO3F and Sr2ZnO2Cl2 under high temperature, high pressure condition. In addition, we observed a pressure-driven spin crossover in Sr2CoO3F. Surprisingly, it was found that the spin crossover involved a novel polyhedral transformation from CoO5 pyramid to CoO5F octahedron as a result of covalent-bond formation between Co and F ions.
