Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
1. Sr(Ti,Fe)O3-x films with different nano-structures were fabricated by pulsed laser deposition. Higher growth temperatures led to increased crystallinity and crystalline quality, larger grains, higher surface roughness, higher oxygen content, and higher Sr surface concentrations. 2. An in situ optical absorption relaxation approach was used to evaluate the films' oxygen surface exchange kinetics (k). Best k was found for films grown near their crystallization temperature. 3. In situ crystallization and resulting ultra-fast k were discovered via continuous in situ optical absorption measurements. 4. k and its degradation over time correlated with Sr surface segregation, but were not affected by grain boundary density or film orientation. 5. Local doping of grain boundaries did not improve k.
